Applicants on the Centralized Waiting List for Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) assistance are ranked using the date of their application and City defined “Local Access” priorities. These priorities were expanded by the City of Toronto in November 2023 and now include the following:
- Special Priority Program for victims of abuse or human trafficking
- Terminally ill
- Tenants already in RGI housing where the unit has too many bedrooms for the household (over-housed)
- Households Exiting Supportive Housing (HESH) (New)
Some RGI vacancies must be filled by applicants with specific backgrounds. This includes people who are experiencing homelessness, youth aged 16 or 17 at the time of application and are applying independent of an adult, and those who identify as Indigenous to Canada.
